True Boasting: What the Bible Really Says About Glory

By Jermaine Streeter

The world says:
“Boast in your grind. Flaunt your trophies. Make sure everyone knows how great you are.”

But the Word says:
“Boast in the Lord.”

That’s not just a spiritual suggestion; it’s a radical call to redirect your glory.
It’s not about hiding your wins. It’s about giving credit where credit is due.

Boasting Reveals What You Trust

When life hits hard, what you boast in becomes exposed.
If your confidence is built on strength, status, or success, you’ll crumble when those things get stripped.

But when your boast is in the unchanging name of God, your identity is rooted in something unshakable.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
— Psalm 20:7

Boasting shows where your hope rests.
If it’s in self, your ceiling is your own strength.
If it’s in God, your potential is tied to His infinite power.

So let your boast reflect your foundation.

Boasting Isn’t Silence, It’s Surrendered Speech

Let’s be clear:
Boasting in the Lord doesn’t mean you never speak boldly.
It means your boldness has a direction and it’s vertical.

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
— Galatians 6:14

When you win, celebrate.
But let your celebration be a reflection of grace, not pride.

When you overcome, speak it.
But make sure your spotlight becomes a stage for His glory, not your ego.

God doesn’t silence strength, He sanctifies it.

Boasting Is Testifying, Not a Trophy

Look at David. He didn’t slay Goliath and start a brand.
He said, “This battle is the Lord’s.” (1 Samuel 17:47)

David didn’t deny what happened.
He just made sure everyone knew Who really won the fight.

That’s biblical boasting.

It’s not about hiding your story.
It’s about pointing every victory, every comeback, and every platform to the cross.

You’re not flexing to be seen.
You’re testifying so others see Him.

Boast Boldly in the Right Direction

God never told you to shrink.
He told you to shine, for His name, not yours.

Boast in your scars, they tell the story of healing.
Boast in your failure, because grace met you there.
Boast in your progress, because you know Who brought you through.

“Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
— 2 Corinthians 10:17

So what do you boast in?

Your bank account?
Your bench press?
Your resume?

Or do you boast in the God who carried you through your battles, lifted you from your lowest, and redeemed your past?

Boasting isn’t the enemy.
Pride is.

Boast loud.
Boast often.
Just make sure you’re boasting in the right direction.
