Preparation Makes Greatness

By Jermaine Streeter

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
Proverbs 6:6–8

Greatness doesn’t arrive overnight.

It’s carved in early mornings.
Sculpted by discipline.
Baptized in silence.

The world may see the shine, but God sees the grind.

Look at any champion, whether on the field, in the pulpit, or in the marketplace and you’ll find the same truth: greatness is earned long before it’s ever seen. It’s what you do before the lights come on that determines how bright you’ll shine.

The Bible gives us a striking example in the ant, a small creature with no commander, yet it prepares with purpose. Why? Because it knows the season is coming. It doesn’t wait for direction. It moves with wisdom.

That’s what preparation is.
Faith in motion.
A declaration that says, “I believe God is taking me somewhere, so I’m going to train like I’m already there.”

Whether you’re preparing your body, sharpening your mind, nourishing your spirit, or refining your mission—what you do today determines how far you’ll go tomorrow.

At JS Sports Training, we teach our athletes that what happens in the weight room shows up in the game. The same is true in the spiritual realm, what happens in your prayer closet shows up in your life. Don’t just pray for the win, train for it.
Condition your soul like you condition your legs.
Fuel your spirit like you fuel your body.

Because spiritual and physical preparation walk hand in hand.

So, what steps should one take?

  • Wake up 30 minutes earlier to pray, read, or reflect.
  • Write down your goals and build habits that carry you toward them.
  • Train every day, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Remember: You don’t rise to the occasion.
You rise to the level of your preparation.

The Hidden Grind that Heaven Honors

Preparation is more than practice, it’s obedience.
It’s believing in the unseen, working in the quiet, and honoring God with every moment of discipline before the platform comes.

True greatness doesn’t wait to shine, it prepares in the dark.
Behind closed doors.
Without applause.
Until the only voice that matters says, “Well done.”

God doesn’t bless laziness.
He blesses readiness.

David wasn’t crowned after killing Goliath, he was anointed before that moment, while tending sheep.
Jesus didn’t walk into ministry untested, He spent 30 years preparing for 3 years of purpose.

Your preparation season isn’t punishment.
It’s a divine setup.
You don’t skip it.
You grow through it.

So whether you’re lacing up your shoes for the gym, opening your Bible before sunrise, or serving quietly when no one sees just know this:
You’re preparing for God-sized greatness.

Train like your future depends on it.
Because it does.

Stay Humble.
